Fully Automated Wheel Set Laser Paint and Rust Removal Equipment
Automated laser paint and rust removal for efficient, non-destructive wheelset cleaning.
The equipment employs a through-type design, utilizing a composite laser system and three-axis or six-axis robots to efficiently remove paint, rust, and oil contaminants from urban rail vehicle axles, dust-proof plate seats, and inner and outer wheel rim plates of wheelsets. The smoke and dust generated during the cleaning process are purified by a dust purification system before direct discharge, enabling efficient, environmentally friendly, and non-destructive cleaning.
Solution
For scenarios involving paint removal and rust elimination during major overhauls of wheelsets in rail transit depot facilities, we provide a turn-based fully automated laser cleaning integrated solution. This solution is compatible with existing wheelset transfer systems and integrates a composite laser cleaning system, three-axis/six-axis robots, a dust extraction system, and an intelligent re-inspection module. It replaces conventional sandblasting and manual grinding processes, addressing key limitations of traditional methods—such as high environmental pollution, low operational efficiency, and severe damage to the substrate material. The equipment supports all wheel diameters from φ600 to φ1250 mm, features adaptive laser power regulation, and can be deployed across diverse rail transit applications, including metro, light rail, high-speed rail, and heavy-haul railway systems.

Working Principle
(1) Introduction: The equipment utilizes a high-energy composite laser beam to irradiate the surface of the wheel set, instantly heating, vaporizing, decomposing, and peeling away the surface paint layer, rust, and oil contaminants, thereby achieving non-contact cleaning. In conjunction with a vision-based positioning system and a three-axis or six-axis robot that guides the laser head along the contour of the wheel set, the system ensures precise coverage of the entire cleaning area; it is also equipped with a dust and smoke purification system that collects and treats generated particulate matter in real time, operates entirely without chemical consumables, and exerts no mechanical force on the substrate material. (2) Process Flowchart: AGV loading & transfer → Vision-based positioning & identification → Laser parameter matching → Robot-coordinated cleaning → Dust & smoke purification & collection → Intelligent performance re-inspection → Qualified product discharge
Why Choose Us
Fully unmanned end-to-end operation
Supports full-process automation of AGV-based material handling, cleaning, and re-inspection, reducing labor costs by 85%, and is compatible with batch maintenance assembly lines in depot environments.
Micron-scale non-destructive peeling
Non-contact laser cleaning results in substrate damage of less than 1 μm, prevents wear of the substrate by the cleaning wheel assembly, and can extend the service life of the wheel assembly to up to 10 years.
Zero chemical pollutant emissions
No chemical agents are used throughout the process, achieving a 100% reduction in VOC emissions and saving over 800,000 yuan annually in hazardous waste disposal costs.
Maintenance efficiency has been significantly improved.
A single cleaning cycle takes only 15 minutes—significantly faster than the traditional 4-hour process—enabling daily production capacity to increase to 120 units.
